The home is a simple rectangle, approximately 44′ wide and 24′ deep (exterior dimensions). The long axis runs east-to-west, and most of the glazing faces south.

We intend to use three-string bales laid flat per the Pima County Straw Bale building code. The walls will then be 23″ thick, plus a couple inches of plaster inside and out. So while the foundation is 1056 square feet, the interior space is only about 800 square feet. Our home will have two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a combined ‘great room’ for socializing, eating, and cooking. It is a split plan, so the bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house. It has a wraparound porch to help protect the bale walls from weathering and to provide additional outdoor living space. We plan on expanding the house with two future additions: a bedroom wing and a sunroom.
